You set GOALS the WRONG way

Why do you want to get to your goals is the fuel for engine to reach your goals.

When you set goals you may have in mind something like:

  • I want to become a millionaire.

  • I want to have a fit and strong body.

  • I want to have the wife for life.

But, what do these goals do for you right now to achieve them?

Nothing, beside setting a direction.

You’re missing two key factors.

Just hypothetically, you want get from Orlando to New York City. What do you need to get there? You need a car that transports you and fuel that fires up the car.

It’s the same with your goals. You need a system that gets you to your goals and a fuel that fires you up the follow your systems.

This fuel is your “WHY”.

Why do you want to get to your goals is the fuel for engine to reach your goals.

The stronger your ‘why’ is, the more you’ll be willing to do and the further you’ll be willing to go in order to achieve what it is that you want.

Something either has to push you or pull you in life, and if you have neither, then you’ll find yourself stagnant.

Be aware that you’re rather run away from pain than you’re going towards pleasure.

HOW DOES A WHY LOOK LIKE?

A why can look like anything:

  • Financial freedom

  • Retiring your parents

  • Hating your 9-5

  • Wanting to get out of college

Typically someone could have a surface-level why and an underground why.

Their surface level ‘why’ being something obvious: I want to be an entrepreneur so that I can make loads of money; making loads of money would be your ‘why’.

However, your underground ‘why’ might be that you want to make loads of money because you grew up reasonably poor and you want to look after your parents and allow them to retire early.

Your underground ‘why’ will always be stronger than your surface-level one and will be the real driving force behind why you do what you do.

HOW DO YOU FIND IT?

It’s very simple but hard at the same time.

Just sit down and write down everything you want to achieve. Ask yourself, what you want your dream life to look like.

Describe it to yourself, and be as detailed as possible.

Once you’ve done that, you need to ask yourself again:

  • Why do you want to live a life like that?

  • What about certain aspects of it make it attractive to you?

Basically, write down why you want to achieve it. And again, ask yourself, why you want these whys. Repeat that cycle until you can’t find any deeper layer.

The deeper your why the stronger it will be.

The stronger your why, the more you’ll be willing to do shit in order to achieve what it is that you want.

Your why is unique to you and only to you.

I hope you enjoyed this letter.
